The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) has been organizing national and regional racing championships in the United States since 1949.

A ‘stock car’ used to refer to a standard production car, but nowadays the term is used for racing cars derived from production models, as opposed to cars specifically constructed for racing purposes. In 2013 Martin Lee Truex Jr. drove this Toyota Camry stock car, fitted with an 850 hp 5.9 litre 8-cylinder engine in the NASCAR Sprint Cup for the Michael Waltrip Racing Team. The best result was the race at Sonoma Raceway in California, where Truex, after starting in 14th position, came first with an eight-second lead over no. 2. The Sprint Cup is the most important NASCAR championship. Each Sprint Cup season comprises thirty-six races, primarily held on oval circuits. The most famous of these races is the Daytona 500, held every year in February at the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida.
