Rochet Motorcycle

Motocyclette Rochet

ca. 1898

France

Lithography on paper Philippe Chapellier was a French Impressionist, modern artist, caricaturist and illustrator. He was known for his artistic advertising posters for department stores, automobiles and motorcycles/bicycles. Chapellier often paid great attention to feminine beauty. In 1900 he opened his own lithography studio. This poster depicts an advertisement for a Rochet light motorcycle (manufactured by the Société Industrielle D’Albert, Somme from 1902 to 1927) with plenty of character and stylistic rendering. It paints a dynamic scene of a fox hunt normally led by horse riders. However, here we see the horse riders fall to the backdrop as the Rochet light motorcycle takes the lead in this exited and dynamic hound charge to catch the fox. Artistic Posters P.
